Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs, and Wear Cows
Learn about "Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs, and Wear Cows: An Introduction to Carnism," at a free public lecture by Dr. Melanie Joy, based on her book by the same name. The presentation will be at Unity Temple, 875 Lake St., on January 17, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.
Carnism is the invisible belief system that conditions us to eat certain animals, and to unknowingly act against our own interests. Dr. Joy argues that by illuminating carnism, we become more empowered citizens and active social witnesses. Her accessible, engaging and level-headed approach is relevant to all, regardless of their dietary choices.
Best for ages 15 and up. Sponsored by the Social Action Committee. For more information call 708-660-9376.
