"13th" Documentary Screening

Join us for a showing and discussion of Ava DuVernay's powerful 2016 documentary "13th" detailing, piece by piece, the American system of incarceration, how it was built and expanded over the years up to today, and its disproportionate effects on people of color. Encoded into law by the 13th Amendment ratified in 1865, incarceration has grown into a vast system of oppression legalizing involuntary servitude and depriving generations of Americans of their freedom and opportunities for productive lives - and in turn, depriving our nation of what could have been their countless gifts, talents, and contributions. A panel discussion will follow. Learn the facts and consider our roles as people of faith building beloved community. All are invited, and lunch will be provided.

This all-congregation event is sponsored by UT-UUC Adult RE and the Restorative Justice Team.
