UTCS Presents the Ying Quartet
The Unity Temple Concert Series presents The Ying Quartet, Saturday, March 31 at 7:30 p.m. The Ying Quartet occupies a position of unique prominence in the classical music world, combining brilliantly communicative performances with a fearlessly imaginative view of chamber music in today's world. Now in its second decade as a quartet, the Quartet has established itself as an ensemble of the highest musical qualifications in its tours across the United States and abroad. Their performances regularly take place in many of the world's most important concert halls, from Carnegie Hall to the Sydney Opera House. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to experience these brilliant performers in the intimate setting of Unity Temple. For tickets or information please go to www.utconcerts.com or call 708-445-8955.
UTCS Presents Graznya Auguscik & Paulinho Garcia
UTCS presents Graznya Auguscik & Paulinho Garcia, Saturday April 28 at 7:30 pm. This duo of a Polish American jazz singer and a Brazilian-born guitarist and composer, combines to create a perfect example of contemporary Brazilian jazz at its finest. Auguscik has the vocal ability to handle any song well, and she does so with much verve and sensitivity when she sings alongside Paulinho Garcia whose "vocals are never less than seductive, his guitar playing ever atmospheric and evocative," in the words of Chicago Tribune jazz critic Howard Reich. For tickets or information please go to www.utconcerts.com or call 708-445-8955.
UNITY TEMPLE’S INSCRIPTION
The Congregation and UTRF are working together to replace the letters that were stolen from Unity Temple’s terrace facades. Conservation of Sculpture and Objects Studio in Forest Park is beginning the process of making templates for each letter, some of which need to be recreated from scratch. When we approve the templates, they will purchase bronze sheets and cut out the new letters. In the meantime, Harboe Architects is working on developing a method to securely attach the letters to the building, and the discussion on the proper finish of the letters continues. We will keep you updated.
“LANCET” WINDOWS
You may have noticed that two of the eight tall, narrow windows in the sanctuary have been removed and replaced with clear Lexan. With a $10,000 grant from The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation and additional support from the Congregation, we will be restoring and repairing all eight windows this spring. Each window is 16’-8” tall and 11” wide, and is made of two separate panels.
